  4. DN says:

    Thanks Xty!
Thankful for too many things to list.

The good ole’ U.S. of A. appears to be in a mess, but she’s just doing a much-needed cleanse to rid herself of politicians and fake money bankers.

I am so thankful and anxious for the “cleanse” related chaos that lies ahead, and then the freedom that lies beyond!!

  6. EO says:

Happy Freya’s Day…or Frigga’s Day. Confusion reigns, so take your pick. Some say they are the same, merely different aspects of womanhood. Others will bonk you on the head for such blasphemy.

Dudestacker – you are crazy like me!

  8. EO says:

This one is interesting too, with more of an “Anglish” tilt, which xty might appreciate.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frige

For linguistic detectives, seeing as how both Frigga and Freya have a lot to do with sex, and seeing as how way gives on to way in language, one can probably deduce how words like frick and fuck have been passed down to us today. The uneducated might assume that when one hears someone say “friggin” or “frickin” that someone is merely trying to avoid the “F-word”, to avoid getting bleeped out on TV. Obviously there is far more to it than that.

  9. EO says:

Oops, I’m on moderation. Too many “F-words” perhaps, 😛

Anyway, my point is that the use of the “F-word” in everyday conversation comes to us honestly from our old germanic roots!

  10. EO says:

A lot of good reading and links here as well.

  11. EO says:

Well, until the moderation glitch gets fixed on my first two posts of the morning, you guys are just not going to learn about the origin of “Friday”. A little suspense, perhaps.

“Always leave them wanting more”, ha ha . Have a great day all.

  12. EO says:

I can’t seem to find the links now. You know how you surf all morning, and then can’t find the stuff you thought you saw that you want to take another look at, because pieces seemed to finally come together? Anyway, I could have sworn I saw some links giving the pronunciation of Frigg, or Frigga, or Frige, a “Soft G” rather than a hard one. You combine that with variations of Freya given sort of a “Freyja” flavor, and one can easily see linguistically how the very early forms of both Frigga and Freya could have sounded quite the same as a spoken word, and then aquired variation over the miles and the centuries.

Therefore, I’m coming down on the side of Frigga and Freya being one and the same. No arguments or “bonking on the head” necessary as far as I’m concerned. Probably best to leave it as “Happy Friday!” and leave it at that. Or simply, TGIF!

Whew! Got that off my chest! Now I can move on to the rest of my day.

  13. xty says:

Too many links, I think was the problem. I haven’t banned any words. I set a limit on links just because it is a common spam thing. I think I set it to 3. But I will change it to 5, because the spam filter thingy seems to do a great job.

And have a nice Friday just took on a whole new meaning …

  14. EO says:

OK, so I couldn’t leave it alone.

It seems that people who are truly serious about the Frigg and Freya question, and who are motivated enough to comment on blogs about it, are no more sure of themselves than anyone else.

As I said above, I’ve staked my claim in the “one goddess” camp, with that one encompasing all the myriad roles of womanhood.

So what else is on the agenda for today? Still digesting from yesterday. Leftovers. It’s basically a 4 day weekend so there will be more family gatherings, more cooking, more food, more alcohol.

The diet starts on Monday, and will go until it dies a horrifying death in a Christmas/New Years haze.

And then…New Years resolutions! Which in turn will be pretty much abandoned by Spring. Ahhh, the cycle of the seasons…

Ragnarok is what we have to look forward to, but it’s important to note that after all the destruction, a new day dawns.

  17. Dryocopus pileatus says:

i’m kinda jealous that you were the first one to get moderated.

  18. Dryocopus pileatus says:
