Turtles all the way down ..

I can’t remember when I first heard this explanation for creation and the earth, but basically the theory holds that the earth is supported by a turtle, and if one asks what supports the turtle, the answer is, “It’s turtles all the way down.”

While simplistic, it actually captures the difficulty in any discussion of time and creation and the universe, because it is nonsense to say that things ‘began’ with the Big Bang [at least the biggest one we know of or can imagine, ed.] because there must have been something to go bang, and while the universe may have created its own space [mighty clever, ed.] the notion of expanding, often described by lame science teachers as being like the skin of an inflating balloon, does to my mind imply an otherness that allows the expansion.  If you can define an edge, then there is something beyond the edge, even if it is outside our light-cone and therefore time-come.

So having had to come to grips with the fact that it really is turtles all the way down, more likely than not, imagine my surprise when I took these photos of some merganser ducks on a rock while at the cottage.  I was trying a new [to me] lens, and when I got back to my computer was hunting around in the images to see if anything was actually satisfactorily in focus [no, but I am not totally discouraged], when I discovered that yes, if you look closely

Rick Santelli went on another Tea Party Economics ranting meltdown yesterday. Post mortems are getting a lot of write-ups. ZeroHedge is predictably lauding him as a hero, while most others are pointing out how ridiculous and wrong he is. Personally, I thought it was awesome how Steve Liesman, Josh Brown, and the guy from UBS all basically stuck it right up Santelli’s ass. Special kudos to Josh Brown for knowing just exactly how to push Rick’s buttons into a meltdown. Nice job.

In other news, I’m still waiting for the Cyprus “bail in” to be the tipping point of global wealth confiscation, sending the world rushing to dump paper assets in favor of physical metals.

Well, it’s only been 16 months, let’s give the fearmongers some slack on this…

Still waiting on Weimar too. They’ve been promising us (threatening) that since, what, the 70’s? Sure been a long time coming. I guess that means it will be all the worse then, lol. These people don’t scare me anymore. They’ve become impotent. Lost their powers completely.

I have some barbarous relics for sale. Some actual wealth that needs to be liberated and put to productive use instead of sitting around collecting dust.

I enjoyed this article. There was a lot there that I can identify with, as a former hunter who now despises the NRA.

    TBogg: I was the NRA

    for what it’s worth…

i agree much more with Santelli than any of those other corporate owned self serving shills. i do not want a centrally planned economy. i want power from the ground up, community based, the most equitable,… you know the way the cycle always starts or ends, depending on when you define the beginning/end of empire. power corrupts, absolute power, absolutely. well, you know the quote. things are truly fucked in the real world. yes, i know things are still going well by you EO. it all is dependent on one’s perspective.

i used to be in the NRA also. i am not feeling much of a threat lately to my rights as described by the 2nd amendment, so have not paid dues since the Clinton years. (at one point every gun i had was illegal either by Federal legislation, or City of Madison ordinance) i am your moderate and very well liked neighbor, … no need to fear unless you enter my house uninvited.

i am not going to argue any of these points. i have come to the conclusion that it is futile to try to change minds, especially anonymously on-line. people just need to figure out for themselves what works for them, and then STFU. pissing matches on the internet are just ego driven displays of insecurity anyway.

    peace out.

Well, I just have to say, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that Santelli gif. I like to blow it up on my screen and just let it run. As a WingNuttering/Fearmongering “Caption Contest” it could keep me busy for weeks or months, or forever. Every day’s headlines provide new material for ridicule, and that gif is the perfect vehicle.

But then…I’m a simple guy and easily entertained.

    and…Good Morning!

  7. EO says:

For example, one could attach that gif to every article, every day, at Zerohedge. It would be friggin hilarious.

I really do not want to watch CNBC, vicariously. Or think about Zerohedge.
