Bacq at it …

Good Morning

Sorry for the hiatus, but things happy and things gastric created a glitch in the matrix. But when time and space had rearranged themselves in a better way, an actual Matrix

Even Woden would have trouble being angry here, especially on his name day, and as my belly improves I am sure so to will my mind, and as always I appreciate the patience of my audience.

  1. Dude says:

Good to see you, my friend. More later but it’s shaping up to be one of the more memorable days for pleasant weather- if one can ignore the mosquitoes, that is.

  2. EO says:

Good Morning, xty, and welcome back. Time on the water is always good for what ails ye.

  3. EO says:

My Dad and I were sitting in a bar near Port Wing, Wisconsin one day, looking out over Lake Superior when this came sailing by. There was big wind and big waves that day. It was a magnificent sight. They eventually sailed it to Norway.

A fully functional Viking ship replica, made in Minnesota.

  4. xty says:

Wow. That is one mighty bow – and it sailed by just for you – magical. I am beginning to think that there are a number of States that border the great lakes that should consider becoming Canadian. Wisconsin and Michigan both spring to mind. Maybe Oregon too, just to include the west.

  5. Dude says:

Great idea, what about Washington with legal marijuana?

  6. Dude says:

Walk over, so while I wait for the dew to dry off the garden, I think I’ll make a quick run to town for some zinc. Note to self, check for runny noses BEFORE kissing grandchildren.

  7. EO says:

I would elaborate, but ummm…there’s something flashing on my phone.

No, seriously, I don’t do facebook, twitter, or any other social media. But I do spent a crazy amount of time sitting in front of this computer just totally wasting time. It’s idiotic.

Think I’ll go pull some weeds.

Smartphone dependency fuels other addictions, say rehab clinics

  8. Dude says:

I found a way to curse, or at least espouse an epithet in polite company- simply rumble “Great Spangled Fritillary!!!”.

  9. EO says:

Wow, this feels like deja vu all over again. For the first time in many, many a moon, we wake up to worries about European banks, stocks to open sharply down, and metals up. Is this it? Is this the long awaited change in trend? Time to sell stocks and buy all things PM? Or perhaps, will it be short lived and prove to have been just another buying opportunity in stocks, and another missed chance to unload some barbarous relics?

Of course, I have no idea, and no opinion. I’ll watch the charts and make up my mind as we go. We look set for a 1% down opening, but we need to drop 7% to trigger my sell signals via the 200 day avg. I’m already long metal, due to the physical gold stack, but no paper trading positions there. I have no short term trades on, either long or short.

But tune in to next week’s episode when we’ll hear Peter Schiff say “I knew it all along, because, as Rothbard states…”

  10. EO says:

For the record, for anyone tracking this sort of thing (which I think is probably pretty close to nobody), my last signal on gold was a buy as of June 20 at 1314. Current quote is 1342. I’m not really impressed with it though, unless we go north of the March pop around the 1380’s. If we fail on that, I think the chart would look pretty bad again.

Personally, I have my eye on 1400, as a place to sell some coin. That’s my bias. Long term, gold rallies are to be sold.

  11. EO says:

That’s basically it. I believed in the Gold Story for 30 years. But to me, all of it, from the theoretical foundations, to the practical applications, to the cast of deviant characters involved as mouthpieces, have all been revealed as frauds in these past few years. All of it. I plan to be a steady seller, a little bit per year, for many years to come. Any big rallies will find me selling another couple of coins.

  12. EO says:

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, KWN is (still) pimping the idea that Gold could hit $2000 in the next 90 days. So there you have it, straight from the horse’s…

If that were to happen, my whole stack would be gone to Provident. All of it.

OK, maybe not my Shield back, Young Victoria Sovereigns…

  13. EO says:

It should be noted, that the KWN call is based on some market action from 1982. 1982? Really? What they don’t tell you is that after that move, Gold went nowhere, flat to down, for the next 20 years, ultimately getting cut in half again before the next move.

They have a good long term chart in the article, but they are only commenting on it selectively. Surprise.

  14. xty says:

Here’s some solid gold for you. Trying out a new lens and camera body that have come into my hands through a foul tragedy that befell a close friend and neighbour, who lost a brother to depression. What do you do? Nightmare, and then all his possessions too, and there was no will, so his poor mum inherited everything. And a year later they are still haunted by a few things, so I forked over hubby’s hard-earned cash (and one day he will forgive me) and promised to find happiness and create something positive with the detritus of poor uncle’s life.

And with that gnarly preamble out of the way, two lovely shots from my mother-in-law’s fabulous garden:

  15. EO says:

    I like this one

  16. Dude says:

What camera? What lens? Do tell.

  17. xty says:

Canon 7D, Canon ef 70-300 zoom which is what I wanted, and a cool 100 mm 1:2.8, fixed lens that might be better than my 105, and a 17-85 canon efs lens – but it isn’t working which sucks, and worse I can hear something loose inside. But I am sure it can be fixed. There is also the starter 18-55 lens and a Canon Rebel Xsi body. All the manuals, etc. Both cameras take video, which is something I have wanted for ages.

I am going to have to sort it out and sell some of it somehow. But the 70-300 lens isn’t too big to carry around so I am quite excited!

  18. xty says:

    3, but darn

  19. Dude says:

I have the 100 mm Macro that you just acquired. Since I got my 15-85 though, I find I don’t use it as much. Too many times it requires a tripod. Still, I would find it hard to give up.

The 7D and the 70-300 could be a real steal.

As for the 17-85, I have had dealings with Canon Repair and they are very prompt and reliable. If it’s the f/2:8, keep it if it can be fixed. If it’s the the f/4-5.6, and fixable reasonably, bundle it with something else and get the 15-85.

Now on to the Xsi. I had one and there was no video. I hope yours does, but check it carefully. There is something to be said for having two camera setups like I do, hopefully you will always have one or the other with you.

Finally, I sold an 18-55 on eBay for somewhere around $50

    Have fun!

  20. xty says:

It is the 4-5.6, sadly. But I will take it in and see what can be done. I think my old 40D is as good as the Rebel probably, so I think bundling and selling would be a good option, and I will keep my good old guy. I still have my original Rebel and it works just fine, so it is all over-indulgence.

My 105 is a Sigma lens, and I am pretty sure the 100 is a step up.

But yes, the 70-300 looks pretty darn cool.

  21. EO says:

Krugman explains why economists who always complain about stimulative low interest rates are ever and always political agents of the uber-wealthy.

In my opinion, hard money goldbuggerism is Class War, waged by the rich against the rest of us. I’m just not having it anymore, and this is why my stack is for sale. At the right price, of course. 😀

    Who Wants a Depression?

And…a good morning and a Happy Freya’s Day to you all.

  22. EO says:

Wait a minute! Stocks were up today???? How in the hell can that happen? The Doomosphere assured me that the Portugese banking crisis was like ringing a bell at the top and that there was nothing coming except 90% down from here…

Somewhere, another doomer just jumped out of another window. And all the rest doubled down and said, “Oh yeah? Well…it’s even worse now!”

I have nothing left but the utmost contempt for that crowd. Vile. Reprehensible. Reptilian. Fill in the f’ing blank…

  23. EO says:

They’ve been wrong for 45 fucking years and they are not about to stop now!
