And you thought the Shipping News was a depressing book, by a depressed nit-wit …

who had barely visited Newfoundland, and had the temerity to completely misrepresent the people, painting them with her own misery. But no. The depressing shipping news brought to you by this not very depressed nit-wit features the very frozen Great Lakes. While apparently last year’s ice is not to be beaten, this year’s is giving it a run for its money, if ice had money, which thankfully it doesn’t.

Here is the recent satellite shot from NOAA. Or not. They seem to be having troubles with their website, which is a good thing, because I am full of misinformation this morning. Apparently there was more ice coverage on the Great Lakes on March 3rd 2015 than on the previous year’s March 3rd. But I am pretty sure it is neck and neck now, or neck and bottle-neck if you are a ship hoping to get to Lake Superior, which thankfully you are not.

So here is how Lakes Huron, Erie and Ontario looked on March 3rd:

Statistically speaking, apparently there was 88.3% ice coverage compared to 86%, in 2014.

That’s a whole lot of ice, but what that doesn’t show is that the water appears warmer this year … or I am unable to read the maps, which is a distinct possibility, hope springing eternally, leading to eternally hoping for spring!

A weekly Wednesday update … served iced, with a side of warm wishes.

Good morning … not really of interest to anyone but me but I am swapping out pain medications and stopping Lyrica is not much fun … but it feels necessary after two years and to give this new one a go … but a little extra rocky. Day 3. Just explaining the lack of verbosity.

But a very happy spring equinox to you all, and a happy full solar eclipse if you live in Europe and points east …

Well, hello! Just thought I’d stop by with some updates.

The Brother Saga: He survived a series of nursing home situations and has heroically made it back home. He has a boot on his right foot now for the rest of his life, and is getting hand controls installed on his car. Hopes to get back to work by April 1, otherwise the financial situation gets a lot worse due to a cost of health insurance situation. Time grows short for that, but at this point betting against him has been a loser.

The Mrs. O Job Situation Saga: Still ongoing! Totally nutcase situation. More later if anything ever resolves itself.

As For Me: In the midst of tax season, so, yeah, pretty busy.

Family: All seem healthy and happy. One niece is expecting #2. Another niece finally got a real job. No bad news out there, so…Yay!

Markets: Stocks within spitting distance of new highs. Gold equally within spitting distance of new lows. That’s a stale old story, but pretty much the new normal. Peter Schiff is still in business pitching the End ‘O The World. And you can always get your daily downer from Zero Hedge if you need to feed your dark side. Sheesh, talk about a stale old story! Those guys never get tired of being wrong.

Tunes: I don’t even listen to the oldies stations anymore. I truly believe we are in a new golden age of really decent music. As soon as they throw an oldie on there, I change stations. I’ve moved on from so much baggage. It’s been an upheaval, but awesome.

OK, pony cars and pretty girls never get old.

Speaking of updates, I am having a tough time with my insides and things are just on hold for the moment. Keep hoping for that better morning …
